The International Online Conference “Digital Education 2024” is organized by the Center for Educational Technologies Western Balkans in collaboration with partners for the fifth consecutive year.

We continue the tradition of gathering with the desire to exchange knowledge and experiences, to learn from examples of best practices, and to discover the most effective ways of connecting education and modern technologies.

Sandra Nikolić

Sandra Nikolić, born in 1980, graduated from the Department of Library and Information Science at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade. She began her professional career at the Belgrade City Library, where she worked for many years as the coordinator of the American Corner.

Since 2020, she has been part of the Digital Library Development and IT Support Department. Sandra participates in numerous professional development programs and is actively engaged in international projects of the Belgrade City Library.

Sanja Sajko

Sanja Sajko is a preschool teacher with many years of experience working with young children at a kindergarten in Zagreb. Her daily practice is based on fostering children’s curiosity, creativity, and independence through play, exploration, and collaboration. She places special emphasis on creating a stimulating and safe environment where every child has the opportunity to develop their unique abilities and interests. Sanja actively uses digital tools in planning, documenting, and enhancing the educational process, believing that modern technology can be a valuable aid in early learning. She participates in numerous projects focused on innovation in education and the professional development of educators. Motivated by continuous learning, she keeps up with new pedagogical approaches that improve the quality of work with children. She believes that collaboration with parents and colleagues is key to building a community that supports the holistic development of each child.

Slađana Jović

Position: Digital Herbarium

Slađana Jović has been teaching for over 25 years and delivers chemistry lessons in English as part of a bilingual education program. She has experience working with children with developmental disabilities and special needs, as well as with gifted students. She has led various workshops on the use of digital innovations in teaching at STEM conferences in Brussels, Warsaw, Ljubljana, and Belgrade. Slađana is actively involved as a seminar leader in the “Schools for the 21st Century” project on behalf of the British Council in Serbia and serves as an external collaborator for the Institute for Evaluation in Belgrade. She has held the title of Educational Advisor since 2020.

Slavica Dražović Perošević

Position: Digital Tools for the Professional Development of Preschool Education Staff

Slavica Dražović Perošević holds a master’s degree in preschool education and has ten years of experience working with preschool children. She has been pursuing studies in pedagogy since 2022, focusing on connecting theoretical knowledge with practical experience. She is particularly notable as the author of more than five research papers exploring the use of digital technologies in the professional development of educators and in work with children. She has translated this research into practice by designing and conducting the webinar “Digital Tools in the Professional Development of Preschool Staff,” aimed at enhancing colleagues’ professional skills and improving the quality of work in preschool institutions. Believing that digital technologies can enrich children’s play and learning experiences, she has developed various activities and games through which preschoolers acquire new knowledge in a creative and interactive way. Slavica has completed numerous trainings and actively participated in national and international professional gatherings for preschool educators. By combining research, practical work, and continuous professional development, she stands out as a professional contributing to the improvement of preschool education quality and promoting innovation in work with children and staff.

Sofija Vujović

Position: Digital Inclusion: About the Project, the Situation in Serbia, and the National Coalition

Sofija Vujović is a pedagogue employed at the Centre for Education Policy as a researcher and research coordinator. With fourteen years of professional experience in the field of education and education policy, her work focuses on the following areas: developing inclusive culture and practice, self-evaluation and external evaluation as complementary mechanisms for building quality in educational institutions, prevention of student dropout, pedagogical leadership, school development as a learning community, and evaluation of various aspects and innovations within the national education system.

She possesses in-depth knowledge and understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the national education system, the political context, strategies, and regulations in the field of education. Throughout her career, she has gained comprehensive experience in researching different levels and aspects of the national education system, as well as in conceptualizing and producing evaluation studies and reports.

Sofija has long-standing collaboration with key institutions within the education system, research organizations, and other partners. She has extensive experience in designing and delivering trainings for teachers, education professionals, school principals, and students. She also has many years of mentoring experience, supporting primary and secondary schools through various projects, and has been actively involved in external evaluation processes of educational institutions’ work quality.

In the context of digital education, she highlights her participation in the following projects:

  • “Bridging the Digital Divide for the Most Vulnerable Children – Establishing EdTech Libraries and Providing Additional Support to Schools and Students”, where she served as author of school trainings, author and moderator of online school panels, co-author of the monitoring and evaluation framework, and mentor to schools. The project was implemented in partnership with UNICEF Serbia, the Centre for Education Policy, and other organizations.

  • DII – “Digital Inclusion Initiative”, where she was author of the research methodology and policy analysis in the field of digital inclusion, as well as co-author of the National Report on Digital Inclusion in Serbia. The project is carried out by a consortium of partners from Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia, and is funded by the European Commission.

Sonja Šumonja

Position: Developing Critical Thinking in the Use of Artificial Intelligence

Sonja  holds a specialization in Mathematical Sciences and works as a pedagogical advisor and mathematics teacher at the Nikola Tesla School of Electrical Engineering in Niš. She views her teaching role as guiding students into the world of mathematics — but in diverse, often nonstandard and innovative ways.

In recent years, she has been exploring the use of artificial intelligence through various models tailored for teachers (as a Magic School AI Ambassador) and for students. She is one of the founders of the Niš Mathematics NGO – NiMat, and through the popularization of mathematics and related sciences — particularly by organizing numerous “Mathematics in May” festivals — she and her colleagues have helped many children stop seeing mathematics as something intimidating.

With more than 20 years of experience using educational software in teaching, especially GeoGebra, she has contributed to redefining mathematical standards for secondary education and to integrating mathematical educational applets into regular classroom practice. She is the author of numerous papers published in national and international journals and is recognized as a speaker at scientific and professional conferences both in Serbia and abroad.

As a Scientix Ambassador, she has contributed to the popularization of STEM and STEAM education, working with other teachers and empowering them to view their roles differently and act in accordance with the needs and trends of the 21st century.

Stela Durutović

Position: Programming Micro:bit Devices in the Digital World Subject – Experiences and Examples of Good Practice

Stela Durutović is the Education Programme Manager at the British Council. She has many years of experience in implementing international education projects, particularly in strengthening the competencies of school principals, teachers, and students in the areas of critical thinking, digital literacy, and programming.

She has gained significant experience through collaboration with regional and international educational institutions. In recent years, she has participated as a plenary speaker at the annual conference of the English Language Teachers’ Association (ELTA), as well as at the National Teachers’ Summit of Serbia.

Stela regularly attends the annual World Education Forum in London, dedicated to sharing best practices and innovative approaches to improving teaching and addressing global challenges in the education sector.

She also contributed to the development of a collection of lesson plans and school projects that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and the use of the micro:bit within the Schools for the 21st Century programme, funded by the UK Government with the support of the Ministry of Education.
